This obscure village on the Tamilnadu side of the Karnataka border is the point where the stream Sanatha-kumaranadhi meets the swift flowing Cauvery. Situated about 250 m above sea level, Hogenakkal is connected by good motorable roads from Salem via Dharampuri. The main attraction is the bath in the falls, dropping vertically from a height of 20 m with a thundering sound. Hogenakkal in Kannada means 'Smoking Rock', a name derived from the cloud of mist and spray that envelops the chasm. A sacred bathing place, Hogenakkal is well known for the curative powers of the water.
How To Get There? It is located 46kms from Dharmapuri, 150kms from Salem and 133 kms from Bangalore. The best way to reach hogenakkal is by Road in NH7via Salem and dharmapuri. From Salem New bus stand there is frequent bus services directly to hogenakkal every 2 hrs. Dharmapuri has frequent services like 1 hr a bus from Salem. One can even reach dharmapuri and take another bus to hogenakkal. The nearest Railway Station would be Morappur(Only Few train’s bound to Chennai stop here) and Dharmapuri(only few trains bound to Bangalore Stop Here. The nearest Railway Junction would be SALEM JUNTION.
Accomodation: One who likes to Stay in Hogenkkal has only one option which would be TTDC Hotel. Staying with best hotels in Salem or in Dharmapuri and making a one day trip to hogenakkal would be a better idea. |
