Kannankurich Lake can very well be converted as very good tourist spot, if corporation authorities take steps. Almost all over the year water is there. (Except for some years Apr-May-June it has no water) Parasal service is there with small boat house which are used by fisherman. If we pay some amount they will take us for boating. If you take a mini bus trip from Hastampatti to Karpagam it will take the Lake bank road which is around 1.5 Kms is a spectacular view on entire lake. Members please visit this area by 2 wheeler will definetely enjoyed the ride,(take diversion near Chinna muniappan temple on Kannakurichi main road) particularly in the evening with cool breeze. Some years news came that a water theme park proposal on the banks of this lake, but got only knows the present status. Corporataion also already indicated in its budget that the lake will be improved and a boat house constructed and that also gone to dust bin.

Almost Kumaragiri lake also having the same status, which also needs to be converted as tourist spot, which is having another attraction near is Kumaragiri temple. Corporation should take steps to run buses from New BS to Kumaragiri foot hills, which will improve the tourism

If buses operated in Oothumalai it will attract more tourists.

Kalippatti Murugan temple which will attract lakhs of crowd only during Thaipoosam is also a good spot to watch.

Poolamaptti boat riding and cauvery bath there is a pleasent thing, and most of Salemities not known about this area, needs attention.

A Oodai (small river) near Kandhasraman have some waters during winter can be developed. (During my school days often visit here and take bath).

சுற்றுலா மையமாக மாறும் பனமரத்துப்பட்டி ஏரி தமிழக அரசு செயலாளர் இறையன்பு ஆய்வு

பனமரத்துப்பட்டி: பனமரத்துப்பட்டி ஏரியில் பல்வேறு பொழுதுபோக்கு அம்சங்கள் நிறைந்த சுற்றுலா தலம் அமைக்க, தமிழ்நாடு சுற்றுலாத்துறை அரசு செயலாளர் இறையன்பு நேரில் ஆய்வு செய்தார். சேலம் மாநகராட்சிக்கு சொந்தமான பனமரத்துப்பட்டி ஏரி 2,700 ஏக்கர் பரப்பளவு கொண்டது. மாநகர மக்களின் குடிநீர் தேவைக்காக 1911ல் ஆங்கிலேயரால் இந்த ஏரி அமைக்கப்பட்டது. ஏரியில் மலர் பூங்கா, குடிநீர் சுத்திகரிப்பு தொட்டி, ஏரியில் இருந்து தண்ணீர் எடுக்கும் இரண்டு வால்டோர், சுற்றுலா மாளிகை உள்ளிட்ட பல்வேறு வசதியை ஆங்கிலேயர் ஏற்படுத்தினர். பனமரத்துப்பட்டி ஏரி இயற்கையாகவே மேடான பகுதியில் அமைந்துள்ளதால், மோட்டார் வைத்து பம்பிங் செய்யாமல் குடிநீர் சேலம் டவுன் பகுதிக்கு கொண்டு செல்லப்பட்டது. ஜருகு மலையில் அடிவாரத்தில் வனப்பகுதியொட்டி அமைக்கப்பட்ட ஏரி பசுமையாக காட்சியளித்தது. இங்கு பல சினிமா படப்பிடிப்புகள் நடத்தப்பட்டுள்ளன. தற்போது போதிய மழை இல்லாத காரணத்தால், ஏரி வறண்டு, முள்புதர் சூழ்ந்தும் பரிதாபமாக காட்சியாளிக்கிறது.


ஏரியை சுற்றுலா தலமாக்க வேண்டும் என்று பொதுமக்கள் அரசுக்கு கோரிக்கை விடுத்து வந்தனர். அதையடுத்து பொழுபோக்கு அம்சங்கள் கொண்ட சுற்றுலா தலமாக, ஏரியை மாற்றும் பொருட்டு, ஆய்வு பணி நடந்தது. தமிழ்நாடு சுற்றுலா துறை அரசு செயலாளர் இறையன்பு, நேரில் ஆய்வு செய்தார். பூங்கா, சுற்றுலா மாளிகை, உயிரியல் பூங்கா உள்ளிட்ட பல்வேறு அம்சம் அமையும் இடம், சுற்றுலா பயணிகளுக்கு தேவையான வசதி குறித்தும் மாநகராட்சி மற்றும் வருவாய்த்துறை அதிகாரிகளுடன் ஆலோசனை நடத்தினார்.

சுற்றுலாத்துறை அரசு செயலாளர் இறையன்பு நிருபர்களிடம் கூறியதாவது: பனமரத்துப்பட்டி ஏரி மிகவும் அழகாக இருக்கும் ஏரி. ஏரியில் சுற்றுலா தலம் அமைக்க தமிழ்நாடு சுற்றுலா வளர்ச்சி கழகம் முடிவு செய்துள்ளது. இன்று பனமரத்துப்பட்டி ஏரியில் முதல் கட்ட ஆய்வு மேற்கொள்ளப்பட்டது. வனஉயிரியல் பூங்கா, மலர் பூங்கா, சுற்றுலா மாளிகை உள்ளிட்ட பல வசதிகளுடன் சுற்றுலா தலம் அமைக்க நடவடிக்கை எடுக்கப்படும். இவ்வாறு அவர் தெரிவித்தார். ஆய்வின்போது சேலம் மாநகராட்சிஆணையாளர் பழனிசாமி, சேலம் டி.ஆர்.ஓ., ராஜரத்தினம், ஆர்.டி.ஓ., குழந்தைவேலு, தாசில்தார் வீரமணி, மாநகராட்சி ஜெ.இ., லட்சுமணன் உள்ளிட்ட அதிகாரிகள் உடனிருந்தனர்

By looking at the pic during the inspection. the lake seems to be dry?? Anybody has idea on how this lake looks in all seasons?

Loggy, I think, the Encroachments all over the canal paths from Yercaud to several lakes in and around the city is the main concern. Due to the encroachments and other reasons, the rain water does not flow through. Authorities should give serious attention to it.

Yes Vijayan you are correct that is regarding Kannakurichi lake.

Even that is dry and Tamilmurasu carried a picture regarding that 2days before.

If I am correct this Panaimarathupati lake gets water from Jarugumalai.

I don't think Panamarathupatti Lake has intake from Yercaud streams. This Lake itself is surrounded by mountains. Oothumalai from North, Jeragamalai from North east and bothaimalai stretch from South east. Its intake should be from these mountain streams.

But still as you said, Authorities must take a concern on the encroachments..
