Salem is becoming an educational hub. Since there are many tier-Ii colleges have come up up which produces tens of thousands of graduates every year. Naturally, Salem is set to become a knowledge hub which predominantly used for Information Technology Services and Information Technology Enabled Services like BPOs.

Salem Airport is a long standing shortage for Salem which has now been fulfilled. This should attract many foreign investors to come directly to Salem. Cost Saving wise, Salem is at least 50% lower than the Chennai and Bangalore. Even it is 20% lower than other tier-II cities like Coimbatore, Madurai and Trichy. Elcot announced the land cost inside IT park is 25Lakhs in Trichy where as it is only 17 Lakhs in Salem.

Salem is a perfect location for knowledge services due to its location surrounded by hills and many vacation spot for picnic. We have Yercaud, Panamaruthupatti, Mettur, many places Cauvery river bed.

It is time for us to strive hard to get the necessary funding from the state government to build IT Park in Salem. This will push further to help our infrastructure feasible for IT companies to come to Salem. Many large companies, having too many options on hand, want to test the water before investing. IT Park will be the easiest way in order to do that. Instead of building on their own which needs huge capital, they can just lease the space and get started.

Let us use this forum to share our thoughts and information on IT infrastructure in Salem and Status of Salem IT Park.

This was the last news about IT Park:

SALEM: Construction works in the Salem Information Technology (IT) Park will commence in a month’s time, Agriculture Minister Veerapandi S. Arumugam has said.

Participating at the ‘Salem 2020’ programme organised by Sona College of Technology here on Wednesday, the Minister said that the government had allotted 160 acres of land for the establishment of the IT Park in Salem.

Yes we need to focus on this now. I suggest to take up with NASSCOM to organise an IT conference at Salem where we will invite leading IT and BPO companies. The session can have Hon minister for agriculture and State IT minister participating . The venue can be at Salem engg college, and we can take all the leading engineering colleges around Salem to co sponsor it.

I have just put what came to my mind and we can further work on this..

anirudh sir,
its a good idea, to attract IT investors.
if not NASSCOM, we can approach the IT ministry of TN govt. or even we can ask ELCOT to have a conference like this.

There was a plan several months back to conduct an 'Empower IT' Conference at Salem to be organized by ELCOT. We could also see the Calendar of ELCOT MD on their website, where he had attended several meetings at Salem and Chennai with some third parties regrading the conference.

But for some reasons known only to them, the conference did not materialize and ultimately nothing seems to be going in the right way for the IT Park at Salem.

They also announced a CII Chapter for Salem, but nothing seems to get materialized.

We should hopefully give some push through the right channel and get things rolling.

Salem is left behind in the IT park battle. Coimbaotre, Trichy and Tirunelveli got 560 crores where as Salem got nothing. We need to have right representation from SALEM. It is a great idea to get Nasscom, Elcot and State govement involved along with our minister to get it going.

If nothing happens in next few months, we may have to wait until the election. After election, this may not even happen for ever. I think we need take this to our local minister Mr. Verapandi Arumugam to get his help.

It is the destiny of the Salem!!

In fact Salem has the more advantage in becoming the IT city than any other tier II cities in TN because of its location, but the IT ministers or the gvt worked as usual favorable to cities like Trichy, Madurai and Tirunelveli and left Salem behind. Coimbatore IT park was made out of compulsion as many IT parks started to function there before gvt IT park started.

Surely our city potential in attracting the IT companies could not be far less than Tirunelveli, when Tirunelveli could get 500 odd crores for building the IT park by TN gvt IT dept marketing, I wonder how effectively that marketing could have done on Salem IT park. Surely its government lack of interest!

Until we have IT ministry and transport ministry like the present gvt, Salem IT park would stay dream, Salem TNSTC will be the dump yard for whole TNSTC.

The gvt is now working on CBE for their failure in past general election, lot of infra projects, tamil conference, botanical garden (I now wonder whether the one at Yercaud will take off), new buses, fashion schools etc., to get their votes in CBE-Tiruppur belt. Let see what happens for Salem.

^Does Tiruneveli have that potential to have a large IT park? i seriously have a doubt on that.

^^ But loggy, the authorities think otherwise... They don't have vision.. they don't try to see whhich place deserves what.
For then Tamil Nadu is, Madurai, Trichy, Tirunelveli. Off late, Coimbatore has managed to get itself into the list (even though Coimbatoreans would refuse to accept this fact, and continue to tell that they are being neglected).

Unless there is a very strong push from our side, right from common man to top politicians, we cannot expect things to happen automatically.

Its high time that we get ourselves in the action to ignite a fire in this regard.

This is infrastructure development. This was already in the cards as they will be developing roads and other infrastructure inside the IT Park. But the high rise building of 65,000sqft is the key which is the one Salem is missing. This was the tender they gave about 6 months back which was in the elcot site for about 5 crs. Hope to see some announcement on the building during this inaguration.

What about meeting Salem collector to discuss about the Salem IT Park? I heard that few of the IT companies were started by Salem people (I am not very sure). It would be better if SCIDF with company CEOs meet the IT ministry & Salem officials regarding the IT park. Will it have any impact if Salem based software engineers sign on a petition for Salem IT Park?
