Two IT majors evince interest in Salem park

SALEM: Two information technology majors have expressed interest in establishing their branches at the proposed Information Technology Park in Salem.
Disclosing this at a consultation meeting on the potential for the development of information technology sector in Salem on Monday, the Collector said that the park would come up on a 164-acre site on the Bangalore National Highway.
Connectivity
The park has better road and rail connectivity. Steps were being taken up to start flight services to Salem from Bangalore and Chennai.
He said that over 5,000 graduates and diploma holders from IT streams were coming out every year from 13 engineering colleges, 12 polytechnics and 40 arts and science colleges in Salem and Namakkal districts.
These graduates, who are now moving to other cities in search of employment, would be able to get jobs in Salem itself after the establishment of the IT Park.
The district administration would create awareness about IT sector opportunities in Salem among college students and entrepreneurs running small and medium enterprises. A conference would be organised in this regard shortly.
Senior government officials and representatives of Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) would participate in the conference, he added.
CII, Coimbatore zone head, E.B. Rajesh spoke on information technology for small and medium enterprises’ competitiveness in the meeting.
The Collector held discussions with representatives from CII, officials, entrepreneurs, principals of various institutions and students.
