PF #1 to get a new look



Article #7 in the above link states that the Platform #1 in Salem Junction will be closed for 45 days to facilitate the maintenance work in the rails running along the platform. The PF #1 witnesses heavy traffic round the clock, but had not seen maintenance for more than 10 years now. It was decided to renovate the rails along the platform and new concrete sleepers were brought few months back. The work to install new sleepers was put on hold in view of the division inaguration works. That has not started getting its shape and the platform will soon be closed and the maintenance works would start.

The article aso states that works for additional platforms & subways would commence soon.

Salem-Karur BG line to be ready by 2009

The Southern Railway Chief Administrative Officer (Constructions) R.Ramanathan will inspect the works on Salem - Kerur new BG line on January 10th. He says that the works are in full swing after the settlement of the cases regarding the land acquisition. At present Earth works and other major bridge works (including the 1km bridge across Cauery) are progressing steadily. It will take 1.5 years to complete the bridge & earth works. Rails will be laid six months after the earth & bridge works complete. In all probability SR is planning to complete the stretch by 2009.

The PF laying works going on and on .... at Salem Jn for the long looooong period. The PF 4 & 5 though looks completed it needs the lines to be connected with other lines, electrification works pending and PF lighting also pending. Now no works progressing on these 2 PFs. Don't know the reason. But tender seen for this PF work as a part of Salem-Cuddalore BG conversion. Hope after awarding the tender the remaining works will be completed soon.

One more PF coming up near the present PF1. For this section, the wall work completed and tiles laid on front portion of PF. Sands filled on remaining portion and after this tiles laid on this. The advantage of this PF work is there is no need of rails laying and electrification since already this is available. But major pending work is connectivity to this PF via sub-way. Hope Salem-Katpadi passenger announced in this budget will commence from this new PF.

^ yes its really bad to see such a snail pace work in a Rly Div.
the NEW PF's construction also took off RAMP facilty for the Phycially Diabled, which was used in the northern side of the existing PF2 connecting Former MG PF.
