Yet another demand to construct an ROB in Mulluvadi Gate



A freight train was stopped on the tracks, blocking the movement of vehicles on the busy Cherry Road and Bretts Road - in as there were signalling problems.

This has caused huge inconvenience to the public and the demands of ROB is increasing as the section is being used by many freight trains and passenger services.

Will the concerned authorities do the needful?

Can we do something to get the ROB in place? Its one of the most important needs of the city.

is it technically feasible in tht regions.. because the existing roads are very narrow..
when they go for demolition some buildings like mosque will give some problems..

One of the corporation's action items for 'Ezhilmigu Salem' was to build a fly-over at this place, that covers the level crossings at both Cherry Road and Mulluvadi Gate. The news also had a mention about a design that corporation prepared for this. Unfortunately it did not appear on papers, only the model for State Bank Colony and Five Roads appeared on papers.

But again, there is no further talk on any of those PLANs.

However, there has to be an ROB at these crossings in order to facilitate smooth flow of traffic.

Flyovers and ROBs are also priority items for our Forum. The moment Forum gets registered, as a group we will have to take it up through some political links.

Lets hope we complete the registration formalities before 15.02.2009 or latest by end of Feb'2009.

It should be possible there, i am preparing the some feasible flyovers alignment there... but i dont how technically it is possible,, i will post it here today... let us discuss on that.'

first option is:

The existing road has to become completely elevated as shown below:

Advantage:

In future we can have double line from Railway junction to Town and then to Vridhachalam. Now it is next to impossible to lay the 2nd line from periyar flyover till Town station. If it is elevated then that can be handed to railway for the future needs of the city.

Disadvantage:

Signals in the top of the elevated roads. In future it may be a mess.

And 1st option;

Railways may not agree for a concrete structure above the tracks for 100-150m!! And it is very difficult to construct this flyover and it may block the traffic atleast for one year on both the sides and it may never happen in India!

2nd option:

Advantages:

Quite easy for construction, just like other flyover but two ramps are needed to connect the Town RS road towards Town RS and one towards Collector office circle i.e goluknada school.

Disadvantages:

Vehicles from Town RS to Cherry road/Vincent/Hasthampati has to travel long way via Palace theatre, Thiruvalluvar sillai, Corporation office and collector office circle to reach the Thogum poonga.

Few roads has to be made one way and no other go.

And we should forget about the 2nd line from Junction to Town for ever.

i think underpass is the only solution..
example.. duraisamy subway in chennai has same dimension in tht area i guess..

Flyover can be supported with just pillar in the middle of the road and we can 2 lanes. And in ground level still we can have movement and space for parking.

Subway will make more congested. It think it is possible only of we have more space for this case.

Duraisamy subway has more space, i dont find that situation here.

Let me try something..

Demolition of blue areas will help..
green area is a mosque.. hence demolition is problematic..
