Dear Friends - I think its high time we all discuss and see how we can make sure the corporation makes the best use of the city being included in under JNNURM.

Below are few important points I have in mind right now:

* Fly-over at Five Roads Junction
* Sidewalk along Sarada CollegeRoad, Omalur Road, Junction Road and Cherry Road
* Announce the current Trichy Road as one-way and develop an alternate road parallel to the existing road for the other direction of traffic.
* Implement a comprehensive solution to achieve a smooth flow of buses going in and coming out of the new bus stand.
* Fly-over at State Bank Colony circle, Kuranguchavadi interchange & Hasthampatti
* ROB's at Mulluvadi Gate, Ponnammapet & Leigh Bazaar
* Parking lots in major areas like Fairlands, Five Roads, New Bus Stand, Old Bus Stand, Bazaar
* Implement a comprehensive solution for the traffic problems near Junction because of the narrow road.
* Center medians (with planations) on the already 4-laned stretches.
* Sign boards across all major arterial roads with directions to major areas - in big size font in both Tamil and English, with no advertisements in it.

Good points.

The present system of Seperte Town Bus Stand should be abolished and it will be shifted to New Bs where sufficient land available. Also seperate BS to be constructed for Omni buses like Chennai. The problem in this shifting is road congestion in Omalur Road. Authorities should find a way to solve this congestion. My suggestion to solve this problem is not allow any Mofussil buses in Omalur Road and all buses should go via ARRS, Meyyanoor Road, Bye-pass and then the Mettur/Dharmapuri/B'lore buses take right cut at Bye-pass and towards Attur/Harur take left cut run through the bye-pass upto Udayappatti. It will pave the way to ply City buses in these roads. Three fly overs each at Bye-pass junction, 5 Roads & 4 roads will solve the traffic jam problem and the system will be very useful for Salem people.

With this shifting not to transfer all Town BS buses to New BS but to re-seggrate some routes and implement point to point system of the present system of all buses starting from Town BS.

Besides this, 4 fly overs at Mulluvadi gate, Anaimedu, Ponnammapet & Leigh bazaar will also necessary.

Can JNNURM be used for creating separate townships? If so, Salem is in desperate need of a New Residential and Commercial Zone. Omalur road and Saradha college has already become a Off-Shoot of 1st and IInd Agraharam.

For CBE/MDU major fund was deployed in providing basic needs like solid waste management, drainage, drinking water etc.,

Do we have any such thing pending?

I want to see 1/3rd of ring road, 3 ROB on Town-Junction railway line and flyover at 5 roads, AVR circle are important.

But still these things should be pushed thro NHAI, SR instead of spending with JUNNURM funds.

Anirudh sir - completely agree with you! Fortunately Salem corporation already has the UGD and Drinking water projects approved (and I hope some amount has already been sanctioned). That will free up a majority of the money from JNNURM towards the usage in infrastructure, and better amenities.

Majority of the share should be used for developing the infrastructure. Some considerable amount towards establishing parks in two or three places in the city.

But still our corporation has not released any info. on this so far. We need to collect how much fund we are going to get.

Mulvadi gate, Bala Bharathi school, Ponamapettai & Leigh bazaar strikes me first.

Let us discuss on this and list out our wish for JNNURM, hope we will have meet in Salem by September 2009 and we can meet some officials in corporation, TNSTC & railway division to discuss on JNNURM, city bus and trains.

Loggy, I thought there would be more activities in the city on this front and made it sticky.. it can be changed, if felt unnecessary!

I think Trichy corporation has already started working on the CDP for JNNURM and even few dailies have written about it.

What is the dumb Salem Corporation doing? I read an article by the Mayor about the workd carried out and being planned couple of days back, and it does not have any mention about JNNURM.

I am not sure how seriously have these morons taken this project. Its something that will improve the infrastructure of the city a lot, if effectively utilized. For that to happen, Salem Corporation should already have appointed the consultants and should be in the finishing stages of the plan by this time. Is that happening?

I am afraid if we are going to lose to Trichy, Tiruppur etc.

Is it possible to check whether the corporation has drafted the City Development Plan or not, using the RTI act....

deputy CM has already told, JNNURM funds for this year is given to Chennai, kovai, trichy and madurai. Salem and Tirupur will get its share next year only.

So no doubt, everything will be dead slow.

Chennai, Kovai, Madurai Yes. But as far as I know, Tiruchi and Salem will get next year.
