The expansion of corporation limit is not possible. As per the news read during last week the census 2011 preparatory work will begin from 1st Jan2010 and this will be finished during Dec'10 and from Jan 2011 actual census begun. Hence Central Govt made GO and adavised states not to alter any city/town/panchayat areas during these two years commencing from Jan 10. So the present status holds good for all corporations in TN unless before this month end any change can took place.

Surely after 2011 census, Salem population will be 1 lakh higher than Trichy -no doubt. Now the question is whether it will be more than or euqal to Madurai or not.

Hence, hereafter we will discuss about either Madurai or Salem will be 3rd. (But originally MDU city limit is too short than that of Salem and practically MDU is 3rd considering MDU & Tiruparankundram population).

its an high time to make our city corporation area extended is....salem stands in fifth place in the state of Tamil Nadu next to Trichy in land area (Salem=94 km² Trichy=146 km²).. The population figures shown in the census for Salem are given excluding many important suburbs like Kondalampatti, Kannankurichi, Malla Moopanpatti etc. which have been included into Salem City Municipal Corporation limits.

the other thing is salem corporation is mainly concentrating on the major area of the city if it concentration lies somewhat in its outerline it is sure tht the development of the city in its expansion and settlemnet wil be rapid

My suggestion,, i think this is a way in whch the city is growing

My guess is, future development wud be on Steel Plant road and the by-pass road from Seelanaickenpatti to Udayapatti.

definitely road from selanaickenpatti to udayapattii will develop to a greater extent..
the advantages are
it can be reached just 3km from old bus stand
its is well accesses to agraharam and ponnamapet thorugh kitchipalayam all good layed 30ft roads..
sevaral schools such as royal park kailash manasarovar fatima cbse sri ganesh college have came out there..
its the way tht people can choose to take a drive to chennai r trichy without enetering the city traffic..
in my bike itself i just had 45 minutes travel to namkkal from my home..

The fourth biggest city in Tamil Nadu, Tiruchi, is all set to get bigger. The Tiruchi Corporation has decided to expand its boundaries and take infrastructure development to suburban areas deprived of major projects.
Plans are afoot to accommodate Tiruverumbur town and other suburbs in Tiruchi to expand the city from the present 146 sqkm to around 240 sqkm. A city corporation official, who did not wish to be named, said the idea was at a preliminary stage.
“The areas to be annexed with the city corporation have not been finalised yet. But we have identified certain peripheral parts of Tiruchi, including Tiruverumbur, to be brought into the city corporation fold,” said the official. He said other city corporations like Coimbatore, Madurai and Vellore would also expand their boundaries.
The idea is to bridge the disparity in basic amenities and infrastructure within the city and the suburbs. Development in panchayats and town panchayats on the periphery of cities is slower as multi-crore development projects are implemented only in urban areas. Though civic bodies in the periphery of Tiruchi are poised to get more facilities once they come under the Tiruchi Corporation, some of the civic body chiefs have raised concerns over the plan, fearing they would lose their powers. This apprehension is unwarranted, said the corporation official, pointing out that the welfare of people was foremost.

Coimbatore, Vellore and Madurai Corporations already requested the govt to extend the city limits.

Trichy is also preparing for the same and soon submit the same to govt.

When our dumb corporation will wake up

I guess it is time for Salem Jilla to become active.

We should make Salem corporation expansion bill along with Coimbatore, Madurai and Trichy.

Let us take the initiative kick start the fire. The bill should be passed before election.

But I will be coming to Salem by Nov 2nd week only.

I am quite new to SJC. Expansion of limit should be done as early as possible,
since inauguration of SSHospital and Hi-tech Collector's office that contain all
departments under one roof, the reality in using these functionaries there will
be lot of transportation, migration and floting population and visits of
ministers, higher ups and that will lead to amounting pressure on Corporation
to meet the needs of the above.
